An amateur photographer in the United States, Maine casco Bay, a group of the moon to capture spectacular photos mirage. This rare astronomical phenomena by the French novelist Jules Verne science fiction known as the "Iraq Delia Chu vase" (Etruscan vases). It formed because the layers of air at different temperatures so that the moon formed by bending.
When the light passing the boundary of different air layer, the immediate deformation of the moon will appear to produce a second moon tightly attached to the first moon illusion. A few minutes later, the two separated from the moon, a little on the "The Moon" re-sliding into the sea.
After a morning of adequate sunlight, the sea surface warming in the afternoon, in such conditions, an abnormal high temperature air layer will appear and float in the sea. In this group of photos taken that day, the sea surface temperature to 4 degrees Celsius, while the sea surface above the air temperature was only minus 8 degrees Celsius, when the full moon's light to the cold air layer between the hot one of the border, light the path will be deformed to form a the refraction. Therefore have had a second moon illusion.
This phenomenon is similar to the high temperatures generated under the surface puddles like mirage. Nellis test physicist Dr Lee said: "The pictures were taken in the evening. Day of exposure in the sun, the sea water temperature, making the air above the sea surface temperature. Once the different layers of air with a temperature difference between them to wear light-off the normal track will be deformed, we have had such a mirage. "He explained that the reason why the moon was a blood red, probably because the atmosphere was absorbed by shorter wavelength blue light, so that red light could be adopted.
